The Awesomeness of God’s World

Currently anchored off the Whitsunday islands, I am musing about what to write for Trinity from Australia. I am not bragging about my circumnavigation of Australia. Rather I am awed at the diversity of creations God has put on this earth. Yes, God made it all and had a plan for life spans, extinctions and evolutions.

Let me share a few thoughts. What’s Whitsunday? We call it Pentecost. When Captain Cook landed here, he thought it was Whitsunday and so named them. He was only a day off. The name stuck.

Of course, when thinking about Australia, koalas and other marsupials come to mind. Australia is home to two-thirds of the world’s marsupials. They have no natural enemies. Most of the koalas I saw were rescued from accidents i.e. being hit by a car. Most are healed and released into the wild. Some are rather old and remain at the center. They are cuddly, but not very nice. You can’t hold them or touch their faces. The best you can do is pet their rears. I would not describe them as soft.

Touring Brisbane by bus, I was struck by how much like any other city its downtown area is. People rushing with their morning coffee in hand to jobs that support their lifestyles.

Brisbane is a tree city like no other I have visited. Every street – even in the busy city center – is lined with trees, lush green trees.

As you read this, you are probably dealing with snow and cold, while I am getting more freckled every day. I am just a week into this journey. But Trinity family, I am awed at the diversity that God has created. I thank God everyday for his wonders and pray that we, his creations, can love, care for, and sustain them in our country and in our hearts.
